Saturday, 8/7 at River Market, folks will enjoy live music by friends Hannah Miller and Emily Lynch
Born and raised in the deep South small town of Dothan, AL, Hannah Miller learned from an early age the value of simplicity, the meaning of love, and the very great advantage of growing up without a television. Now all grown up and living in Columbia, South Carolina, Hannah Miller puts those early lessons to good use in her deep, catchy, soul-baring music that has drawn comparisons to Over the Rhine, Brandi Carlile, Feist, and Rachael Yamagata but remains uneasily pigeonholed, with flavors of Gospel, soul, pop, and Americana blending together to make a fabulous swirly, sweet sound all her own. Folks everywhere are taking notice too, as her song “Keep it Simple” was recently featured on NBC’s hit show, “Mercy” and she’s been asked to open shows for Landon Pigg, Patrick Davis, Katie Herzig, and Langhorne Slim. She has three independent releases under her belt, 2006′s “Storms of Summer”, 2008′s “Into the Black” produced by Grammy Award winner Mitch Dane, and 2009′s stripped down self-produced EP, “Somewhere in Between”. But the year 2010 is looking promising as well, as she is gearing up to release a new EP produced by Nashville’s Ian Fitchuk and Justin Loucks (Landon Pigg, Mindy Smith) this summer, and she was invited to perform at Lilith Fair in Charlotte, NC. When asked, Hannah says the inspiration for her art comes from her smart, supportive and musical husband, James, their two loyal Beagle mixes, Fender and Gibson, and the host of interesting people and situations she encounters everyday. At twenty-two years old, Emily Lynch sings with the experience, humility, and sweet vintage voice of an artist twice or three times her years. What she lacks in career mileage is made up for by the sheer raw and intrinsic nature of her talent. Emily Lynch is a rare breed of artist.

Emily Sheridan Lynch was born on July 18, 1986 in Augusta, Georgia, and grew up dabbling with songwriting while singing in the church choir and high school chorus around the metro Atlanta area. After graduation, Emily pursued a college degree in Communications from Clemson University. She also garnered a collegiate athletics scholarship for Rowing and took home an ACC Championship her freshman year.
After graduating from Clemson in May of 2008, Emily teamed up with the Atlanta-based Dove award-winning producer, Dan Hannon, and has freshly rededicated herself to living her dream of being a singer and songwriter. Hannon, who has developed acts such as Aaron Shust and Manchester Orchestra, heard something special in Emily’s voice and committed to help her cultivate her talents. “I think Emily has the ability, drive, and determination to become one of the premier female singer-songwriters of this era. I am pairing her up with some of the best songwriters and artists that I know in the hope that she will glean a healthy artistic influence to complement her already rich arsenal of talent”.
So far, the team is producing some very respectable results. Emily’s debut EP, “A Little More”, includes five mostly acoustic songs that are a reflection of her spiritual and worship music background. “I am a Christian, but I don’t want to be pigeon-holed as a contemporary Christian artist. I want to write great songs that are authentic and genuinely inspired. It doesn’t matter what genre you want to put them in, I just want to create great music.”
Hannon and Lynch are currently working on material for a full-length project to be released later this year. In the meanwhile, Emily is sharpening her live performance skills this spring and early summer with several shows in various southeastern venues.

Chattanooga Market is proud to host the Toyota Farm To Table Tour this Sunday! One of twelve city stops during their National tour, Chattanooga’s own Market will shine this weekend as 12 of our local chefs will be preparing bite-sized tastings for folks to sample that highlight our Market’s fresh ingredients. It’s a great way to learn more about our local farmers, chefs and ways to eat and shop locally. Toyota will be giving complimentary potted culinary herbs (selected from some of our local farmers) from the Highlander Hybrid Mobile Garden as well as an opportunity to enter for a chance to win a culinary trip to Santa Barbara for a special cooking and farmers market tour. At the Highlander Hybrid Mobile Garden, a specialist will be on-hand to answer general gardening questions.
Also, market-goers will have the chance to take a ride in one of the eco-friendly cars that Toyota will have on site including the Prius, Highlander Hybrid, Camry Hybrid and the Prius Plug-in Hybrid. Plus, folks can take home a John Boss cutting board as a momento of the driving experience. While in Chattanooga, Toyota will not only be making a financial donation to our Chattanooga Market and the Farmers Market Coalition, but will be purchasing carbon credits through TerraPass to offset the impact of the tour’s carbon footprint – all part of their eco-friendly committment!

FiveStar Food Fight at Chattanooga Market Sunday August 15th
It’s a foodie kind of day at Chattanooga Market on August 15th and WE WANT YOU! We’re looking for chefs (amateur, professional, self-recognized, famous, mom warriors, whatever kind of chef you are!) to compete against the reining winner of the 2009 FiveStar Food Fight, Anna Scott, at this year’s event on Sunday, August 15th at Chattanooga Market.
Anyone up for the fun and challenge of cooking live at Chattanooga Market should apply! Four contestants will be chosen (completely subjectively) to compete at the FiveStar Food Fight event from those who apply. Here’s what you’ll need to know:
What is the FiveStar Food Fight?
This annual event at Chattanooga Market draws crowds of thousands who come to watch chefs prepare food right before their eyes using FiveStar cooking ranges, all under the First Tennessee Pavilion. All contestants are given money and time to shop in the Market for the fresh foods they will be preparing that day and are supplied with a few additional ingredients. But there’s a catch, our contestants won’t know the “protein” they’ll be given to prepare until that morning! It’s fast paced, fun, and competitive. We’ll have 4-5 judges who will sample a plate from each contestant to determine our winners. This year’s 1st Place Winner of the FiveStar Food Fight will win 2 Tennessee Aquarium River Gorge Explorer Sunset Cruise Tours (The Tennessee River Gorge Explorer winds along 26 miles of the Tennessee River, and contains over 27,000 acres of protected land. It is the perfect setting for taking beautiful photos from the deck of your Chattanooga riverboat cruise), Dinner for 2 at Blue Water Grille and one night’s stay at Bluff View Inn.
The 2nd Place winner will receive 2 Backstage Passes to the Tennessee Aquarium (giving you VIP access, like never before, to get up-close, touch and feed Aquarium animals).
How can I be a contestant?
We encourage anyone who enjoys cooking and feels qualified to apply to be a contestant. There are no rules here! It’s up to you to woo us and tell us or show us why you want and deserve to be in this year’s FiveStar Food Fight competition. Essays, photos, dvds…it’s all acceptable. Just make sure your contact information is on the package you submit. If you’re one of those techno types, apply online to
Since we expect hundreds of applicants, we won’t be able to sample food or have live demonstrations, but otherwise be creative!
Each of the 4 contestants selected to compete in the FiveStar Food Fight will receive 4 tickets to the IMAX theatre in Downtown Chattanooga.

When will I know if I’m selected?
We’ll be in touch with the 4 winning contestants no later than Monday, August 9th. From there, those chosen will be give all of the details on what to expect before and during the event to be held August 15th at Chattanooga Market.

The Children’s Home priority is to provide early childhood education and childcare for low-income, single parent families. The agency is open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, serving children from six weeks through twelve years old. Fees are based on a sliding scale according to each family’s income. There are developmentally appropriate activities for children each day, with transportation for children to designated neighborhood schools. The program is a Three Star Program – the highest awarded by the state for early childhood and care programs.
80% of families served are living at or below the poverty level, with 73% of the families being single parent homes.
The Chambliss Shelter is this area’s shelter for children from ages six to eighteen years old, who experience significant problems because of neglect, abandonment and/or abuse. The Shelter provides services to children in the legal custody of the State, and serves Hamilton County and the southeast region of Tennessee. The goal of this program is to not only provide for the needs of the children in care, but seek permanence for each child, whether with their biological families, through our foster family placements, or with an adoptive family.
The endless efforts of board members, the community and financial generosity from fund raiser’s such as this Sunday’s Ice Cream Social keep this long-time asset for Chattanooga running!
A big thank you as well to our media partner this week!
