Cut Up For Life at Chattanooga Market – Sunday, September 6th

In it’s 13th year, Cut Up for Life is a collaborative effort of Chattanooga CARES and local beauty salons their spas, stylists, nail technicians and massage therapists who give their valuable time and skills to raise money for people affected by HIV. It’s a fun way to get top-notch salon services at a discount, and benefit a worthy cause at the same time. The participating salons this Sunday include:

Stephen’s Salon
Natural Body

Chattanooga CARES was organized in 1986 and received its non-profit status in 1988. Overseen by a board of directors, the agency employs 19 staff members and uses more than 200 trained volunteers to provide resources to anyone affected by AIDS. The agency maintains a strict policy of confidentiality and treats every client with dignity and respect, neither condemning nor condoning behaviors that place individuals at increased risk for HIV infection. We strive to be the leader in providing AIDS resources for people in our area affected by HIV and AIDS, while continuing our emphasis on prevention as the best tool for fighting HIV infection. Live United – Sunday at Chattanooga Market 8/23

Bring the kids to Chattanooga Market this Sunday for a day of family fun while you discover how United Way is advancing the common good in our community.

United Way of Greater Chattanooga and the Chattanooga Market are teaming up this year to bring you LIVE UNITED DAY at the First Tennessee Pavilion on Sunday. United Way extends an invitation to the community to come learn how everyone can Live United. On this special day at the Market, different United Way partner agencies will provide games, arts, crafts and healthy activities for children and their families to enjoy.

A few of the featured activities at the Market on August 23 will be face painting, Wii demonstrations, pinewood derby races, mask making, kid friendly tattoos, parachute games, creating paper flowers, building picture frames and more – all at no charge. United Way will give away free Frisbees to all children who visit their booth.

United Way will also sell special Chattanooga Market edition LIVE UNITED t-shirts made from 100% organic, unbleached cotton. All proceeds from the sale go to benefit United Way and the more than 80 programs it supports. Of course, visitors can also enjoy Chattanooga Market’s great vendors with food, produce and hand-made artisian goods.

Mayfield Scoops It Up – Sunday at Chattanooga Market 8/2

Yes, it’s the cold creamy truth – we’re all screamin’ for ice cream come August and this Sunday you can get 5 scoops (one each of Mayfield’s sweetest flavors) for $5 and benefitting a good cause too! It’s an annual event at Chattanooga Market, one that kids and adults alike can’t wait for because it’s pure pleasure with Tennessee’s own Mayfield Ice Cream. Tickets are available on Sunday, $5 each. Bark For Life at Chattanooga Market – Sunday, June 26th

The American Cancer Society’s Bark For Life is a special event for dogs and their human companions. Bark For Life, held at Chattanooga Market this Sunday, honors the care-giving qualities of our canine “best friends” and includes a one mile walk and special activities and contests for dogs and their human companions.

You and your dog(s) are invited to form a Bark For Life companion team. The pre-event registration fee is $20 per dog/human team and includes a bandana for the dog and a t-shirt for the human. The day of Bark For Life, the registration fee will be $25 per dog/human team. Volunteers for Bark For Life are also being recruited; opportunities include joining the planning committee and day of event volunteers. The American Cancer Society Bark For Life honors the life-long contribution of our Canine Caregivers. July 5th – Ice Cream Social at Chattanooga Market

Sunday, July 5th will be our annual Ice Cream Social event, a favorite for all kids and adults alike. This year promises to give ice cream lovers samples from the best creameries Chattanooga has to offer including Brusters, Mayfield, Southern Home brand by Bi-Lo and Clumpies. For a $5 ticket, you’ll get generous samples from each of the creameries – and you’ll be donating to a good cause. All proceeds will benefit the Chattanooga Chambliss Shelter who works hard in Chattanoooga to preserve family unity and to prevent the dependency, abuse, delinquency and neglect of children by responding to the community’s childcare needs.

There will 2 People’s Choice Awards to the creameries voted best in each category: Best Pure Flavor Ice Cream and Best Ice Cream with Add-ins.

Mother’s Day Toast at Chattanooga Market – Sunday, May 10th

This Sunday Chattanooga Market will be celebrating Mother’s Day with Pennies For Vicki, a local non-profit organization founded in remembrance of Vicki Connor, an employee of KZ-106’s oldies station who died of breast cancer in January 2001. Our festivities for Mom will include a wine and cheese plate for $5 which will benefit the organization. The day promises to be special with our sold-out vendors offering handmande gifts that Mom can choose for herself, food for everyone in the family and live entertainment.

About our “Booth For A Cause” – “This is our charity of choice here at the radio station (KZ106), so any time we have a chance to tie an event to Pennies for Vicki, we jump at the chance. We think of Vicki often. We do a lot of other events in the area throughout the year, and this event is a just another wonderful chance to get together with Vicki’s family and friends, which keeps her memory alive,” said Kelly McCoy, Director of Promotions for Citadel, and a close personal friend of Vicki’s.

Since 2001, Pennies for Vicki has helped make a difference in the lives of thousands of women with breast cancer. “The first year, our goal was to raise $1 million pennies, and we ended up raising $3 million pennies.” said McCoy.

Pennies for Vicki supports women with breast cancer both nationally and locally and has made donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Why Me of Chattanooga, and the Helene DiStefano Fund. “There are a lot of things insurance doesn’t cover,” said McCoy, “and often women still have to work to support their families, so we are able to step in and help women in these situations.”

La Paz will be celebrating the Latin Culture under the pavilion this Sunday, May 3rd, from 11am-4pm. Complete with Latin food and music, this annual event promises to bring family fun for all. Bounce house and pinatas for the kids! 1:30 – 3:30 live music from Carlos Colon and Tropical Swing.

About our spotlight “booth for a cause” – La Paz meets its mission, first by attending to any immediate humanitarian needs a person or family may have, such as food, clothing or shelter. But the bulk of the organization’s work is in linking Hispanics to the resources that are available in Chattanooga and in linking those resources and agencies to Hispanics. La Paz attempts to educate Hispanics about American institutions, while at the same time attempting to educate non-Latino Americans about life as an immigrant, addressing the prejudices that may exist in one group about the other.

The Chattanooga Market Becomes a Drop Center for Food Bank

Bring Your Food Donations Every Sunday!

The Chattanooga Market is proud to announce a great new addition to our 2009 season.

We are working with The Chattanooga Area Food Bank to become a drop off location Every Sunday starting on our Opening Day April 26.
In 2008, we collected food during our Five-Star Food Fight, Lodge Cast-Iron Cook-off, and the very popular Holiday Market. We filled a few barrels last season and were proud to assist this outstanding organization. But, we felt we could do better.
Now, it is time to step it up! We are asking the Chattanooga Market Fans and patrons to assist those in our community that need help. Last year the CAFB was able to provide more than 13,600 Emergency Food Boxes to over 125,000 families in need. Those numbers are expected to rise in 2009. The additional food items will only be possible if we all do our part.
Please make a note and as you visit the Chattanooga Market during the 2009 season remember those that can use this valuable donation of food.

Chattanooga Endeavors presents it’s 3rd annual Kick’n Chick’n hot wings cook-off at Market this Sunday. For a $7.50 ticket, you can sample one hot wing from 7 of our best hot wing restaurateur’s in Chattanooga. Will last year’s winner Shaun Winklepleck be able to defend his title? You’ll help decide when you vote for this year’s best hot wings in the People’s Choice Award. We’ll also be bringing in a panel of judges who’ll give their thumbs up in the Critic’s Choice Award. Here’s who’s cookin’ this year: Porters, PF Changs, Hair of the Dog, Buffalo Wild Wings, Taco Mac, Caffeine, Magoo’s and Wink’s BBQ.

This year is bigger than ever! We’ll start selling tickets right when Market opens at noon. There’s a limit to how many wings even these guys can cook – some come early and hungry. The final voting for both awards will take place around 4:30 and each of the two winners will receive a commemorative etched glass trophy.

Of course, this event is completely organized and benefitting Chattanooga Endeavors. This non-profit organization’s mission is to restore former offenders to productive roles in society through training, counseling and education programs that remove the barriers to meaningful employment and that teach skills for today’s workforce.
